Promoting Accountability and Transparency Tools to Secure Rights and Entitlements of the poor in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh

Description There is a growing realization that supply side bottlenecks significantly affect performance of the NREGA, NRHM in rural areas and social security benefits in urban areas. Therefore, influencing the supply side actors and mechanisms by empirical evidences, supportive guidance and citizen led advocacy is imperative for effective implementation of these programmes. Through this project, Samarthan envisages initiatives to improve impediments on both the demand and supply sides of programmes to enable better implementation on the one hand and better realization of benefits by beneficiaries on the other.

  • Baseline of the implementation of these schemes in 12 district of Madhya Pradesh and 4 districts of Chhattisgarh.
  • A research report on the status of implementation of NREGS in Madhya Pradesh
  • Institutional audit report on quality of infrastructure of district hospitals led to filing of PIL resulting in orders from the high court to ensure uninterrupted electricity and water supply
  • Social audits on social security schemes led to 178 people getting arrears of Rs. 550 each in Hatta. During social audits in other towns, pension amount was increased for 809 eligible beneficiaries
  • 3000 persons filed application to receive benefits under various social security schemes at camps organized in 70 different wards
  • Advocacy with the district administration led to awareness campaigns being organized by the concerned municipalities. Beneficiaries also began receiving receipts and sanction letter against their applications
